Roger Federer - Best Points in high definition
YouTube l https://www.youtube.com/

A Fed feast. What Roger did to Nadal in Australian Open final 2017:
"Took away his best stroke inside out FH" by:
1. Eliminating slice BH thereby not giving Nadal set up time.
2. Hitting flat over the ball ob BH and taking it early.
3. Hitting cross court flat BH
4. Mixing flat BH with loopy balls to upset rythem.
5. Eliminated side to side play pattern by hitting agressively on every ball, this kept rallies short and never let Nadal set into a rhythm.
As a result Nadal was forced to hit down the line FH which is spectacular to look at but also prone to errors.

Muhammad Ali, and why he mattered

(AP Photo/File/Michael Probst) Muhammad Ali, and why he mattered The Beatles' first visit to the United States was in 1964. Clever publicity agents arranged a meeting for the band with Cassius Clay. He was training for the bout that would make him heavyweight boxing champion.

Muhammed Ali had a unique "ability to be different things to different people," retired basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote on Facebook.

"To sports fans he was an unparalleled champion of the world, faster and smarter than any heavyweight before. To athletes, he was a model of physical perfection and shrewd business acumen. To the anti-establishment youth of the 1960s, he was a defiant voice against the Vietnam War and the draft. To the Muslim community, he was a pious pioneer testing America's purported religious tolerance. To the African-American community, he was a black man who faced overwhelming bigotry the way he faced every opponent in the ring: fearlessly."

The bike light so smart that it can help build safer cities - Collectively

In partnership with BT The humble bike light has been given the ultimate tech makeover, equipping urban cyclists for almost any challenge the concrete jungle can throw at them Everyone knows that bike lights are useful bits of kit for staying safe on the road.

"These benefits come in the form of a crash detection alert – which senses if the cyclist has a crash and sends out a text message to a nominated contact with the rider’s location – and theft deterrent, which alerts the owner’s phone if their bike is being tampered with."

Stephen Curry Ties Single-Game Record for Made 3-Pointers
YouTube l https://www.youtube.com/

Outside the box thinking on building an entire team around 3-pointers turns basketball head over heels.
"-A Silicon Valley financier, that bought a floundering franchise in 2010 and set out to fix it by raising a single question: What would happen if you built a basketball team by ignoring every orthodoxy of building a basketball team? then what follows is this..
-The Warriors, the National Basketball Association’s defending champion, now stand three wins from tying the league record of 72 in the regular season, set in 1996 by Michael Jordan ’s Chicago Bulls.
-This season the Warriors have sunk 1,025 3-pointers, by far the most in NBA history. Not only has Mr. Curry taken more threes than any other player, he is making them at a rate of 45.6%, higher than the NBA average for all shots. He has shattered his own record for most 3-pointers in a season by 34%. Moreover, distance seems to have no significant effect on his accuracy. Mr. Curry is a better shooter from 30 to 40 feet than the average NBA player is from 3 to 4."

I had the pleasure to be a grand marshall at the US Open when it was in Philadelphia. Got very close to all the players. Highlight was to see the greatest golfer play the game. Tiger Woods is an amazing athlete.

Rajat

Rajat Lot of people don't appreciate the fact golf especially as it is played now requires peak athleticism.

Max Photo

Max Photo Tiger drives the ball on average 325 yards and is in great physical shape. I am not in great shape and can drive the ball 250. I can deal with the 75 yard shortage. just an extra club and can give Tiger a run for his money (.. mmm only in my dreams)

Vidushi Sharma

Vidushi Sharma Wow, this sounds cool! What is the role of a grand marshall in golf? I've played tennis my whole life but never explored the sport of golf. It seems like golf is also a sport you can enjoy for a lifetime.

Hockey in Harlem Fundraiser with Designer Catherine Soderberg
YouTube l https://www.youtube.com/

Check out Cathy Soderberg (newly my cousin!) and her work to raise money for Hockey in Harlem, which is fund raising event to allow underpriviledged children in Harlem to play ice hockey. I find it incredible how she responds to the form of the helmets in a way that is both strong, protective and delicate. I also love how the arts can contribute in so many ways to so many different interests!

David Trefler

David Trefler Same here! How common is the transition from architecture to fashion? Does she have a boutique or does she work for a label? Where was this interview taking place?

Emma Zahren-Newman

Emma Zahren-Newman I'll ask her come come on theHOBMOB to answer those questions, David!

Catherine Soderberg

Catherine Soderberg Hi Everyone! Thank you Emma for forwarding me this link. Yes, my background is in architecture. I did my bachelors degree at Pratt and then went on to get my masters degree as well. I have always had a passion for fashion too so it was exciting when I was given this opportunity to participate in a fashion competition. This interview was taken place during the fashion competition at the beginning of September. I feel there is a commonality between both fields. The body is a 3D moving object, and in architecture, one is always trying to design spaces for the body. My work can be seen on my website at www.socadesignstudio.com. I am currently working on starting my own design studio. All the best to you all! Never forget to believe in yourselves. You can do anything you set your mind to. xo

Vidushi Sharma Love your comment about how architecture and fashion are so connected. I think that is something people rarely realize. One of our hopes for this website is to help people realize how many disciplines are, at their core, more related than meets the eye.

Congrats Novak.. great match, hard fought and well deserved victory !
Roger.. you will still be the greatest Tennis player ever !!

Anju Sharma

Anju Sharma The match was so stressful for the fans! Vanita and I were literally biting our nails and clothes (like Federer's father!) while Rajat was trying to maintain silence in order to send positive vibes! All in all, Federer did make multiple unforced errors and Novak has an uncanny ability to return every ball. But Fed being Fed, he promised to be back next year, which is very sportsmanlike. I also like the fact that Djoko is actually very careful and respectful with Federer.

1

Shubham Bajpai

Shubham Bajpai Federer has a unique and distinct game, and he gives an indication if he is going to win or struggle on a given day.. and I did have that feeling in the first set itself. Of all his strokes, his "forehand" shots were going wide and he was not able to convert break-points.. and giving an inch to Novak means giving the Set.. but a great match, and as you rightly said they both are very sportsmanlike.. can't wait to see him back next year !

Rajat

Rajat I think in the first set he was really too stiff and served badly... that started a sequence where he always trailed and fought from behind. And as he himself said he was perhaps being too aggressive even when the slower and colder night conditions did not suit his style of play. What I really admire his tenacity of carrying on... I just cannot imagine, forget myself, or for a better comparison any top athlete having the will power that Federer has shown in battling massively built youngsters playing tennis today. For me the debate about GOAT is not centered on numbers but rather on the magical, mystical way that Federer plays. Same can be said of Mike Jordan or others who achieved that state of mind and body.

1

Anju Sharma

Anju Sharma In the spirit of our conversation, read this, as it really made me think how true it is... In front of God Federer, can no ordinary mortal rise? I appreciate the djoker too now... http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/14/magazine/why-cant-novak-djokovic-get-some-respect.html

Vidushi Sharma

Vidushi Sharma ^ This is a sentiment that is often repeated whenever Federer loses against anyone. No matter what his opponents do, they never achieve the greatness and love that Federer holds in the hearts of the masses- myself included. It seems to just be the way things are

Who Gets to Play Tennis?

When the Hyde Park Racquet Club opened in the late 1970s, amid the country's short-lived tennis boom, there wasn't another indoor facility in Chicago for 10 miles. The club occupied a section of 47th Street, near the lake, that long served as the boundary between the aging mansions of Kenwood and the greater South Side beyond.

In time for the US Open: As a tennis enthusiast, I have always realized how restrictive the sport is in its current audience-- usually wealthy, white suburban parents and their children. We can only hope measures like this bring shifts in the game!
